Well, it has to be close by. I can't imagine he'd leave it anywhere that anyone could stumble across it.

Maybe he goes full skag and carries it around in his stomach, then just kinda. Barfs it back up whenever?

They're like puppies! But they have leathery hides instead of fur. And too many teeth. And they're pretty much exclusively feral and murderous. And their mouths are also their butts.

Maybe he's more like a wolf. Or a bear?

Skags are kind of cute in a gross way!! I always sort of wanted to pet one.
I can see him as a bear, though. Making that dumb GRWOOOAAWWRR noise to try and make people go away but nobody's scared because he's what teddy bears are modelled after?? >w>c

A bear is good. He doesn't seem very... cuddly to me, though.
