Better chocolate than one can find in the vending machines further along the spiral, I hope? Chocolate seems to be Norfinbury's one constant: chocolate-flavored milk in the school, sealed little chocolate cakes in the store, chocolate candy in the vending machines...all of it blander-tasting the further you go. You could measure food quality in chocolate. (I haven't heard him mention scurvy recently, no, but fresh fruit sounds delightful anyway. I'll look forward to it.)
[He hopes he's actually sharing it with them and not taking some and going on his way but that's not really up to him. Also, kind of selfish. And it makes him feel bad. On to better, more pleasant things, since she sounds so chipper:]
Haven't you been to the downtown store before?? All the food there is pretty great! They have fresh bread and pastries and everything. I mean, they won't be so fresh when we get back. But there's still plenty of good stuff!
Oh and for hearts you just type the symbol code But copy and pasting is easier and works just fine!! It doesn't work with my sparkle text, though. Boo. :P
I don't know this code so I suppose I'll copy and store it in the tablet's notepad.
[Yes, he is going to use hearts someday. It's just a handy emotion indicator, right?]
Including pancakes? They certainly left an impression on Beckett, I remember he suggested I try them once. [Under the influence of Vicodin but. Details.] The cold should keep everything you have well enough, regardless. They will certainly be better than anything we might find here, I think. I haven't been there in a very long time (and I didn't try the chocolate).
Dude. Are you freaking kidding me. You never ate pancakes before, either?? I'm starting to think being stuck in the bunker for most of my life wasn't that bad after all. Geez! :P Rhys and his frying pan are going to blow your mind. Hopefully.
[The sad thing is, he does know what they are, just not by that name. They're just fried cakes to him. Though the flavor of modern American ones will be new enough. Different type of batter, different frying methods and surfaces, more versatility in ingredients...]
I'm from your ancient past, of course!
I look forward to trying them. "Hopefully." You aren't sure of it but...neither are you certain of the alternative. You know him better than anyone else here. If you're not sure of the worst then I should have hope, too.
[It's been a while since he's said anything like that. It's both heartening and very strange to think.]

[That he continues to suffer is bad enough on its own. Rhys has seen so much suffering here. Its cause and repercussions make it nigh-intolerable. Being the cause of pain hurts double. Being the cause of an innocent's pain is anathema. That this pain he is causing may also drive him away from the one cause to fight for that has only grown and never wavered? Well...hard to get worse than anathema, actually.
But Angel believes he can take speaking with him now. That's cause for hope, and he finds hope is no longer as empty a thought as it seemed a week ago.]
At heart, he's a good man. Jack could never understand that.
He thought he could taunt me, and claw my wounds open wider. Perhaps he was trying to drive me away from Rhys for some reason? Regardless, he went about it the wrong way, because he doesn't understand what goodness is.
I have faith in Rhys. I'll try, and hope for the best.
(Speaking of Jack, I hope he isn't giving you too much trouble.)
Yyyyeah. One of the fundamental things about Jack is that he's more than a little possessive. Obviously. I mean, you saw what happened when he hid me and Rhys in the basement way back. Rhys was just insurance to the original Jack, there to ensure I behaved myself. But It's different, between Rhys and the hologram? He sees Rhys as one of his possessions just as much as he sees *me* that way. So yes, he'd have been trying to drive you away because he doesn't like to share his things. He believes that if he isolates us, we're more likely to turn to him for comfort or advice. Baaaarf. I hope he didn't say anything too terrible to you? If he did, though, that's just a sign that he agrees with me that Rhys is likely to be okay with you reasonably soon. Or why else would Jack even bother to meddle?
[ There's. Also the issue that Jack saw the surgery just like Angel did, and he really doesn't like anyone damaging His People™. And also the fact that he's just an asshole. BUT DETAILS ]
I remember that. Beckett and I converged on the house at the same time, owing to Jack's mistake in failing to cover for Clayton's whereabouts. I wish the violence hadn't been necessary, but I always do, and it nearly always is.
He doesn't understand how people other than him see the world. He would have been more effective if he did. I'm fine - in regards to anything he said to me, at any rate.
[Actually, Jack had managed to hurt him pretty badly, if only because he aimed at the obvious raw emotions he readily displayed. But he's not going to burden Angel with that. He didn't face the worst, after all, and he knows he's recovering in spite of it.]

By the way, how did you make that heart?

Plus if he can still stand to be around Jack after everything, I'm sure he'll be fine with you sooner or later.
[ Yes, the situations are very different, but. Seriously. ]
If you want to talk to him yourself, he can probably handle that, you know.
Text being the easiest to deal with. Maybe give it a try??
